Nicole Cote

Nicole Cote is a scholar whose work centers on media and the environment, science and technology studies, data and visual culture. Her current research investigates historical and contemporary media, technology, and cultural projects that shape how natural hazards and concepts like environmental risk are understood and made actionable as public problems—as well as their possible refigurings.

She works widely on applied digital projects and teaches courses on digital methods, data, and visualization.

Nicole was recently a short-term Dibner Research Fellow in the History of Science & Technology at The Huntington Library. Her research has been generously supported by institutions such as The Huntington Library, Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering, and Technology, New York City Digital Humanities Organization (NYCDH), and various offices and institutes at CUNY.

She was previously an Advisor for the MA Program in Digital Humanities at The Graduate Center, where she also taught in the MS Program in Data Analysis and Visualization. She was also a Visiting Assistant Professor in the MS Program in Data Analytics and Visualization at the Pratt Institute School of Information.

Nicole holds a PhD from The Graduate Center CUNY, an MS from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and an MSc by Research from the University of Edinburgh.
